HAS ANYONE TRIED IT? AND IF YOUR HAVE WHAT ARE YOUR RESULTS?

Anyone have any info, tips, or details on the Zone diet?

I am a very busy single mom so the Zone diet for me means eating the same thing every day. This has been the most effective diet for me so far and at 5′5″ and 175lbs, I would like to lose approx 30 lbs. (Really I want to lose my fat and build muscle so the weight is really insignificant.) For breakfast I always have a bowl of Kashi with muscle milk powder, snack either an apple and string cheese or a Breakstones cottage cheese and fruit, lunch and dinner either chicken, cauliflower, and broccoli or a chicken salad. I desperately need some variety. I do not like fish and have a tight budget with limited time. I am also looking for a full body work out with dumbells. Any suggestions? (I am really looking for more simple “pre-packaged” items such as the breakstones or just something simple such as the apple and string cheese)

Is the Zone diet suitable for vegetarians?

Should I try the Mediterranean / Sonoma Diet or the Anti-Inflammatory / Zone Diet?

Written on March 6th, 2010 by adminone shout

Okay, so a little background: I’m 24, healthy, slim, love to be outdoors, etc. My boyfriend and I also love cooking and baking together at home, but a lot of times we go out because it’s faster (both busy with work, etc.). We’re trying to eat at home more often to save money and be healthier, and I wouldn’t mind dropping a few pounds as well if it’s more of a “lifestyle change.”

I’m thinking of trying one of those trendy eating plans out there, but I’m not sure which is better. The first one is the Mediterranean / Sonoma Diet, and the second one is an anti-inflammatory version of the Zone Diet. Keep in mind, this is more for health than for weight loss, I would really like to learn a new way to eat that’s not meat-and-potatoes like we both learned growing up.

Can anyone recommend which of these might be better? Here are two pages I read with a review of each, they also recommend the books I’m thinking of checking out:

Mediterranean – http://www.epicurious.com/articlesguides/healthy/news/diet_mediterranean

Anti-Inflammatory – http://www.epicurious.com/articlesguides/healthy/news/diet_antiinflammatory

I want to be alive, healthy, and happily eating for a long, long time, so I’d appreciate hearing any responses, reviews, advice, etc! Thanks!

Has anyone heard or tried the diet called The zone? What do you think about it?

I began three weeks ago. I felt real tired at first, but now I am feeling very good.

Is the zone diet a great lifestyle change and how fast does weight come off on this diet?

Is The Zone diet unhealthy?

The USDA recommends getting 10% of your Calories from protein (60% carbs, 30% fat).

Then there is The Zone diet, which is 40% carbs, 30% protein, and 30% fat. If you are somewhat insulin resistant (as I suspect I am), then reducing carbs should help, right?

But then others say that 30% protein is too much and could be harmful to your kidneys and bones.

Since I started trying to eat similarly to The Zone diet 2 weeks ago, my appetite has gone way down and therefore my total Calories have gone down (perhaps too low, but it should go up as I start to exercise). I’m happy to FINALLY have a reduced appetite, but I’m worried that this much protein might be harmful. I’m eating 79g protein/day.

There’s diabetes and kidney problems in my family. I want to avoid those, plus lose fat, gain muscle, and strengthen bones and heart. I’m ovo-lacto-vegetarian. I’m extremely sedentary but hope to gradually become more active. Right now 15 minutes of brisk walking on the treadmill is all I can do.
P.S. Before this diet I didn’t eat enough protein. I ate lots and lots of starchy and sugary foods, which have always been my favorite. I was constantly craving food even when my stomach was stuffed full. I don’t want to go back to that.
